Email–the beginning

I rebuilt the Dell Netbook the other day to Windows 8. One cool feature on Windows 8 is that the start screen is all customized for who you are, much like the phone is.

Since it was Charlie’s laptop (his first one of course) I used his account. This means that the email tile on the home screen shows him his emails. When he saw one I sent him today he replied to it and was thrilled when he saw it show up on my phone.

Now he’s off emailing Mom and then Tante TT (who, btw, showed up at the front door by surprise today for our long weekend and Aidan’s birthday).

Here it is for fun…

Sleep walking?

Charlie the other night got up at around 11 and walked down from his room in the back all the way to the stairs to the basement. He seems wide awake but he’s not.

I grab him and carry him up to his room. He’s getting real heavy these days too and I sure felt that walk up to his room. But, as usual he put himself back in his bed and back sound asleep. Done.

Charlie meets Frances first lady during NATO summit in Chicago

This picture was taken at Charlie school on Monday. That’s Charlie in the red shirt beside the boy with a capuchon on.

When I showed him her picture on Wikipedia here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Val%C3%A9rie_Trierweiler he said that it was her but she wore a LOT more make-up than that.

Chicago was a busy place this past weekend with the NATO summit in town and at our house we heard lots of low flying helicopters at all hours of the night. The city was in virtual lockdown too. Our office asked everyone to work from home for security reasons, for example you weren’t allowed to bring backpacks on the trains into town.

Also, we live at the 4800 North Hermitage block and the Chicago Mayor lives at 4200 North Hermitage and we saw this from CNN:

Two more suspects have been charged as part of a group accused of being involved in a terror plot in Chicago during the NATO summit, prosecutors said Sunday. A total of five people have been charged. Prosecutors say the men planned to target President Barack Obama's campaign headquarters, the home of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, and several other law enforcement and financial sites.

Here are the official photos from her visit. She was in Charlie's class and actually talked to Valerie who sits beside Charlie.

That’s Charlie in the front of the photo, his shirt had a spill on it so the teacher swapped it for his gym shirt. Truly his father’s son!

Texting

Charlie was checking out the sports scores like he does every night before going to bed when Eileen texted me (actually its Messenger but on the phone it’s the same). He read the text that said should she call to say goodnight to the kids. I told him to reply Oui which he promptly typed in YES. He was very proud of himself and when she did call asked if she like it. Cute. That would be his first text message.
